Teens caught with marijuana, tobacco in the woods

Police caught two New Canaan teenagers with marijuana and one with tobacco in the woods off of Indian Waters Drive April 5.

Police received a call at 1 p.m. from a witness reporting suspicious persons leaving two vehicles on Indian Waters Drive and heading into the woods, according to the report.

When officers went to the area, they found three 16-year-old males sitting in the woods, police said. An officer detected an odor of marijuana and questioned them about it, according to the report. One of the boys handed the officers a small plastic bag containing marijuana and another teen handed them a mint case also with marijuana in it, police said. They were both charged with possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana.

One of those two boys had a marijuana grinder with him and a glass marijuana pipe in his vehicle, according to the report. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

The two are scheduled to appear in juvenile court in Stamford April 15.

The third teen was issued an infraction for possession of tobacco by a minor.

All three were released to their parents at the scene.
