NEW CANAAN — A clerk at A1 Cellars was issued an infraction after selling tobacco products to a minor, police said.
The violation was discovered as part of an unannounced tobacco and electronic cigarette compliance inspection Oct. 20 held by New Canaan Police along with the Connecticut Department of Mental Heath and Addiction Services Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program. A supervised minor was sent to various establishments around town to try and purchase tobacco and electronic cigarettes to ensure stores are complying with state law prohibiting the sale of such products to anyone under the age of 18.
A total of nine stores were inspected. A1 Cellars on Elm Street was the only store found not to be in compliance. The offending clerk was issued an infraction for $200 for the offense.
