Man says his wallet was stolen at New Canaan club

An employee at the Country Club of New Canaan, 95 Country Club Road, reported June 26 that his wallet was stolen from his car while it was parked at the club the day before, according to New Canaan police.

The 31-year-old Stamford resident said he left the wallet in the central console of his car when he parked at the employees' lot at 6:15 a.m. June 25, police said. The man left the site at 4 p.m. and went to Stamford to get a haircut, according to the report.

The complainant received a call from his mother, who said she had been contacted by her credit card company about possible fraudulent transactions, police said. The man, who had his mom's card in his wallet, started searching for the wallet but did not find it, according to police.

The man believes the wallet was stolen at the club, where he's not sure he locked the car, the report stated. But he is "almost certain" he locked the car while in Stamford, police said. The complainant said he did not use his wallet to pay for the haircut, according to the report.

The country club does not have surveillance cameras in the parking lots, police said.

The investigation is continuing.
