Business Briefs: Bankwell honored, Concierge medicine practice opens...

Bankwell increased earnings 31 percent in the second quarter from a year earlier to $3.8 million. CEO Christopher Gruseke reported “robust” loan demand and described credit quality as “exceptional.”

In addition to its headquarters branch in New Canaan, Bankwell has locations in Norwalk, Stamford, Wilton and Fairfield, with the company in the process of opening another in Darien. In the second quarter, Bankwell notified state regulators of plans to close a loan production office in Bridgeport.

A family medicine physician for almost 18 years, Dr. Larry Leibowitz last month opened the doors to his concierge medical practice, Matrix Personalized Medicine, providing comprehensive primary care for his patients. Proactive wellness and personalized care will be emphasized, with more time to address individual concerns and complex conditions.

Matrix Personalized Medicine LLC is at 45 Grove St. Leibowitz, board-certified in family medicine, will continue to care for patients in surrounding communities.

Among his past jobs, Leibowitz served as the medical site director of Stamford Health Medical Group in New Canaan and continues to work as the director of health for the town of Redding.

The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce awarded Bankwell as Company of the Year at its 71st annual Awards Dinner June 28 at the Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield.

The New Canaan-based bank recently ranked as one of the Top 100 Best-Performing Banks in 2016 nationwide by S&P Global.

The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce also recognized Fairfield-based Operation Hope as the Nonprofit Organization of the Year.

Jaafar Tazi Salon is opening at 80 Main St. later this month, but the New Canaan salon has started scheduling appointments.

This is the second location in Fairfield County, with an already successful Jaafar Tazi Salon in Greenwich.

The salon’s services will include hairstyling and coloring, as well as bridal services, nails and makeup.

The Darien office of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties has added Clodagh McCoole to its team.

A Darien resident for 15 years, McCoole is a native of Ireland and graduated from Trinity College in Dublin with a degree in psychology and sociology. She subsequently worked in the London offices of ad agencies BSB Dorland and DMB&B, along with the Glass House in New Canaan.
