NEW CANAAN — A 19-year-old Bridgeport man was charged in relation to several overnight car burglaries from July 2017.
On Feb. 22, New Canaan police went to Norwalk Court to serve an arrest warrant to Vanshawne Wheeler, of Trumbull Avenue. Police said Wheeler is already incarcerated on other charges and had been taken to Norwalk for a court appearance.
Overnight on July 4, 2017, Wheeler allegedly broke into cars in New Canaan and stole several credit cards. Police were able to obtain DNA samples from the cars and submitted them to the state lab. They also found surveillance footage of Wheeler using the stolen credit cards at a Mobil Station in Bridgeport.
Based on that evidence, police said they obtained a warrant for Wheeler, charging him with 11 counts of third-degree burglary, four counts of identity theft and four courts of payment card theft. The judge set Wheeler’s bond at $30,000.
