$8,650 in tools reported stolen

A 43-year-old Darien contractor called police Feb. 28 to report that $8,650 in construction equipment was stolen from the Hawks Hill Road house where he was working, New Canaan police said.

The man told police he noticed he was missing tools when he arrived at the house at 6:50 a.m., according to the report. He had left the residence at 3:45 p.m. the day before, police said.

The doors were closed but unlocked, according to police.

The items reported stolen were a $6,000 Hummel upright floor sander, a $1,500 American Standard handheld floor sander, a $300 Bosch jam saw, a $300 floor nail gun, a $150 Paslode trim nail gun, a $100 Ridgid circular saw, two $100 Ryobi cordless drills and two $50 air compressor hoses, according to police.

The case is under investigation.
