If you’re looking for reading material for beach trips and upcoming vacations (or planning ahead for winter evenings by the fire), the Pequot Library’s much-anticipated five-day 55th annual summer book sale opens Friday, July 24.
The event, on library grounds in Fairfield’s Southport section, will feature more than 55 categories, including more than 120,000 books, about 10,000 CDs, many DVDs and records.
Unique specials will be offered as well; a list of higher value and/or scarce items is online at pequotlibrary.org.
Hours and pricing for the five-day sale are: Friday, July 24, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., prices are double the marked price; Saturday, July 25, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., all items priced as marked; Sunday, July 26, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., priced as marked; Monday, July 27, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., half the marked price; and Tuesday, July 28, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., $5 per bag.
Trinity Episcopal Church will open its parking lot to the public with a "Park for Food" program on the weekend. On Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, the church asks that — in exchange for parking — drivers make a donation of canned foods or funds.
The Rev. Margaret (Peggy) Hodgkins, rector of Trinity Southport, said in a press release: “In keeping with our mission of social justice ministries, all proceeds will benefit St. Luke's Bridgeport Food Pantry or other food pantries serving people in need.” Trinity Church volunteers will direct cars to available parking in the church’s parking lot over the weekend.
