Kent Art Association hosts two acts at free Make Music Day event

A number of years ago a small group of people started holding free music celebrations on the Summer Solstice and today there are more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries holding Make Music Day festivals.

As a participating venue in the town of Kent, the Kent Art Association is hosting two free performances on Make Music Day Friday, June 21, at the KAA Gallery. Light refreshments will be served.

From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., the Carol and Nick Duo will perform. Their music employs a seven-string guitar, live looper, percussion and vocals. Carol Leven is on vocals and percussion, with multi-instrumentalist Nick Moran on guitar, mandolin, ukulele, fiddle and Irish bouzouki. The duo performs a wide range of styles, from the Great American Songbook to Burt Bacharach, from the Bossa Nova to folk, blues and Irish music.

From 4 to 6 p.m., the band Hummingbird and Friends will perform, with Hummingbird members vocalist Bobbi Soares, guitarist Jim Stasiak and bassist/harpist Stan Pannone joined by friend, drummer Jeff Case. In addition, there will be some surprise musical guests. The band plays an eclectic blend of blues, jazz, country, originals, native chants, healing sounds and experimental compositions.

The bands will play on the front porch of the KAA Gallery with seating on the front lawn (some folding chairs are available but it is suggested attendees bring something to sit on). There is parking in the rear and south side of the building with some additional parking in the parking lot just north of the gallery. (Concerts will take place inside if the weather’s bad.)
