Led by junior Tyler Edwards, the New Canaan boys volleyball team collected its firsr road win Monday with a 3-1 effort against Danbury (1-4, 1-2 FCIAC). Edwards totaled 31 kills and a pair of aces, while teammate Isaac Fishman recorded 36 assists. The victory boosed the Rams' record to 2-2 overall, the same mark it holds in FCIAC play after beginning its year with four games against conference opponents.
New Canaan opened Monday's match in dominated fashion, taking the opening set by the score of 25-16. Next, the Rams eked out a win the second frame 28-26, before letting the third set sliop away 23-25. Finally, they held on in the fourth and final set with a 25-23 score.
Last year, the team fell 3-2 to the Hatters in a tightly contested match from start to finish. While Danbury has struggled to start its 2014 campaign, New Canaan can now take momentum from this win into its upcoming matches. Earlier this season, a Rams' comeback effort at Darien was stalled into a loss during the fifth set, which carried into an blowout defeat at Staples. Next up for New Canaan is a home matchup with Harding on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
