In a rematch of their early-season clash, Darien and New Canaan boys volleyball took the court last Friday for an eventual 3-1 Blue Wave victory at New Canaan High School. On April 14, Darien defeated the Rams with a dramatic fifth set, but needed only four frames to knock off its rival for the second time in as many tries.
New Canaan battled back from a 0-1 deficit to take the second set 25-19, separating the teams by only a single point through two frames. Then, Darien's brother attack of Todd and Tim Herget, combined with senior George Phillips, shut the door. The Wave went on to eke out the third set 25-22, before cruising to a 25-15 finish in the fourth. Ram junior Tyler Edwards notched a match-best 22 kills, in addition to collecting three digs and aces.
Todd Herget recorded seven points, 15 kills and 15 assists, while Tim picked up 24 assists and five digs. Phillips finished with 21 points, 13 kills and seven aces. New Canaan's Isaac Fishman tallied 21 assists to go along with four kills and five digs.
Darien's win snapped a four-game win streak for the Rams, who hosts Ridgefield on Monday. Simultaneously, the Wave will return home to welcome Bridgeport Central at 4 p.m.
