Two New Canaan volunteers of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County recently were honored at an awards ceremony and luncheon at the Roger Sherman Inn in New Canaan.
Diane Wodey received an award for her volunteer work at the New Canaan Thrift Shop and Elaine Lloyd received an award for her work as an office support volunteer.
The Carol B. Bauer Community Spirit Award, named after the New Canaan resident, was given to Sharon Sobel for her volunteer service with the Turnover Shop.
"This award was established in honor of Carol Bauer, a New Canaan resident for many years, whose spirit of support and devotion to volunteerism is unmatched in the community," Sharon Bradley, agency president and CEO, said. "The Carol B. Bauer Award is presented each year to that special individual who embodies the ideals of volunteerism.
"An active volunteer at the Turnover Shop for more than 20 years, Sharon Sobel has served as its president for 17 of those years. Sharon's tireless commitment to helping others in all aspects of her life and work is a model for us all."
Bauer, who attended the awards ceremony, added, "Sharon Sobel exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism. It is with deep gratitude and great pleasure that we recognize Sharon for her exceptional contribution to the mission of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County."
