Under the leadership of New Canaan YMCA personal trainer Linda Parentice, Y Tri Club members have trained together throughout the summer with group runs, bike rides and workouts.
Through their participation in the Y Tri Club, several members completed their first multi-sport event, while others worked to improve their overall performance.
Personal accomplishments include Trisha Rozas' completing the Sleeping Giant Trail to Tower Challenge Run May 21, the Navigators Stamford KIC IT sprint and Olympic triathlon June 22 and the Greenwich Cup Aug. 2; Fillip Roseel's completing his first triathlon at the Mossman Sprint Triathlon July 20 and the Greenwich Cup Triathlon Aug. 2; Mariella Montoni's joining Roseel with a strong showing at the Mossman Sprint Triathlon; and Dillon Azipoddi's completing his first triathlon at the Kids in Crisis Tri June 21.
The club is open to all levels, from participants looking to complete their first event, to experienced athletes seeking a team environment to help improve their skills. The club is open to ages 12 and older; ages 12 to 14 must be accompanied by a parent. Participants may begin with one sport or partake in all three; running, swimming, and cycling.
"My philosophy on training," Parentice said, "is to never be afraid to challenge yourself. You'll never know what you're capable of until you TRI it. It's a bit corny, but it's true."
Bridget Philipp, senior director of healthy living and medical fitness at the Y, added, "Completing a triathlon can be extremely beneficial not only physically, but emotionally and socially as well. We're excited to be offering this opportunity for members of our community to have a training program and support system available to help accomplish this goal. Our club is great for adults, teens, and couples. I encourage anyone who has ever had the thought that they'd like to complete a triathlon to join our club, and together we will get you there."
