Three cars broken into at two New Canaan clubs
Three cars were broken were into and two purses were stolen during two separate incidents in New Canaan July 27 .
At the New Canaan Field Club, 164 Smith Ridge Road, a 44-year-old woman who had parked her car there at 4:30 p.m. returned about an hour later to find the front passenger's window shattered, according to the report. The woman said her purse, which contained an iPhone 4, $300 and several credit and debit cards, was stolen. An officer responding to the incident, however, found her cellphone down the street undamaged, police said.
Another car in the same parking lot also had a window shattered but it is not clear if anything was taken, according to police.
Club employees and members told police they saw a suspicious person walking around the pool for about 10 minutes and then leaving the area, police said. She was described as an older woman, possibly in her 60s, with pale skin, brown hair and heavyset. She was wearing a white shirt and black yoga pants, and she walked with a limp, according to the report.
On the same night about a mile away, at the New Canaan Country Club, a 61-year-old Darien woman had her car broken into sometime between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., police said. The front passenger's window was smashed and her purse stolen, but she only noticed it was missing when she got home, according to police.
She said the pocketbook contained $200, her passport, eye glasses valued at $600 and a check made out to her company for $2,000, the report states.
Police are investigating.
