The Town Players of New Canaan will stage the world premiere production of "The Governor's Son" by local playwright Jim Gordon at the Powerhouse Performing Arts Center in Waveny Park from Feb. 21 through March 8.
Performances will take place at 8 p.m. Feb. 21, 22 and 28 and March 1, 7 and 8 and at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 23 and March 2.
The political thriller tells the story of Richard Meeks, the son of a powerful governor, who has won six terms in Congress by scrupulously following his father's orders to "do nothing!" His reputation for "going along" has not gone unnoticed and he's now running for the Senate and, if his mother, Vera, the matriarch of the family dynasty, has her way, possibly as a candidate for vice president.
The production is directed by Tom Butterworth of New Canaan, who has appeared in numerous TPNC productions, notably as the title characters in A" Man for All Seasons," "An Inspector Calls" and the recent production of "Our Town."
"It's a joy and a privilege for my directing debut to be the premiere of an immensely compelling play," Butterworth said, "with top-flight actors, and the creative collaboration with Jim Gordon has been exhilarating."
The production also features New Canaan resident Leighanne Champion.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. For tickets or information, visit www.tpnc.org or call 203-966-7371.
