The Carriage Barn Arts Center is accepting entries for the 25th annual Spectrum/Sustainable Art Show, which takes place March 23 to April 12.
The focus of the exhibition will be on artwork that incorporates or highlights found, natural or recycled materials.
The entry deadline is Thursday, Feb. 6, and online notification of accepted artwork is Saturday, Feb. 15. Artwork can be delivered to the arts center, South Avenue, Waveny Park, New Canaan, Sunday, March 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. and Monday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
An opening reception is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 22.
All subjects, styles and media will be considered for the multimedia art show. Mixed-media works do not have to be composed entirely of such materials. For example, a metal sculpture or painted canvas that integrates stones or reclaimed wood would qualify. The Carriage Barn is a perfect example of a sustainable space. It has been reused within a landscape that has also been preserved as open green space. The Carriage Barn is the home of the New Canaan Society for the Arts.
The juror is Anne von Stuelpnagel, the director of exhibitions at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich. Since 1993, she has been responsible for the design and production of the museum's 12 to 14 annual exhibitions. She also oversees the museum's two annual, juried outdoor arts and crafts festivals.
Von Stuelpnagel received a bachelor's degree from the Blocherer School of Fine and Applied Arts in Munich, Germany, with a major in painting and minor in interior design. As a printmaker, she has exhibited in the Connecticut/New York area and won numerous awards. She has taught printmaking, painting, drawing, design and matting for beginners and advanced students at her studio and at the Greenwich Art Society, Greenwich YWCA, Stamford CCW, Bruce Museum and Susquehanna University.
A maximum of five works per artist will be accepted for a nonrefundable fee. For NCSA members, the fee is $20 for up to two entries and $30 for up to five entries. For nonmembers, the fee is $35 for up to two and $45 for up to five entries.
