Senior men's club to hear ESPN's story

George Bodenheimer, executive chairman of ESPN Inc., will discuss "The ESPN Story" at a meeting of the Senior Men's Club of New Canaan on Friday, May 2, at 10 a.m. in Morrill Hall at St. Mark Church.

Bodenheimer, chairman of ESPN's board of directors, provides strategic direction for ESPN's global business. Bodenheimer, as the company's longest-tenured president, has led a period of global growth and success.

Under Bodenheimer's leadership, ESPN grew to eight domestic television networks serving nearly 100 million households and 7,000 employees worldwide.

In April 2005, he was recognized by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association with a Vanguard Award. In 2008, he was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame for his leadership, innovation and contributions to the cable industry and his community. Throughout the years, he has been honored with many other industry awards.

He serves on the boards of the National Cable Telecommunications Association, Cable in the Classroom and the Cable Center. In 2010, he was named to the board of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

He also championed an increase in ESPN employee volunteerism during his tenure as president, highlighted by more than 30,000 hours of service given to those less fortunate as part of the company's 30th anniversary efforts.
