Three South Carolina residents were arrested in New Canaan Monday night on a charge of sixth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny following an attempted fraud at Walgreens, 36 Pine St., according to police.
Charged were Brett R. Harvey, 28, of Irmo; Channa Nicole Holloway, 26, of Lexington; and Tarkeisha L. Valentine, 25, of Aiken.
New Canaan officers responded to Walgreens at about 9:30 p.m. after a report that one male and two females were attempting to commit a fraud at the store, Police Chief Leon Krolikowski said in a news release.
They were attempting to purchase gift cards with gift cards, which Krolikowski said "is usually a sign of criminal activity."
When police arrived, they stopped the suspect vehicle in the Walgreens parking lot and searched the car, where they found merchandise that likely was "fraudulently obtained," according to the release.
Krolikowski said "it appears that the suspects were involved in similar schemes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania" and that the New Canaan Police Department would coordinate investigations with jurisdictions where the suspects may have committed additional crimes.
Holloway and Valentine were held in lieu of $2,500 bond while Harvey was held on $5,000 bond. Harvey has extensive criminal history in Georgia and South Carolina with many arrests for forgery, according to police.
All three suspects were transported to Norwalk Superior Court Tuesday morning where they were to be arraigned.
