Matthew Bernacchia, 18, of 68 Dann Farm Road, Pound Ridge, N.Y., was issued infractions Aug. 3 for possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor.
A New Canaan police officer doing selective enforcement on Cherry Street near South Avenue observed that a marker light on a vehicle traveling west on Cherry Street was out, according to the report.
The officer stopped the car and approached the operator, who "appeared very nervous," the report states. As he spoke with the driver, the officer observed the front seat passenger, Bernacchia, attempting to hide something on the floor near his feet and something else in the front waistband area of his pants, police said.
The officer smelled an odor or marijuana and discovered that the passenger was hiding a metal grinder, a plastic bag that contained marijuana and a flask that contained alcohol, according to the report. Upon further search of the car and under the passenger seat, the officer found a 40-ounce bottle of malt liquor that was three-quarters full, a pack of rolling papers and a pink vaporizer.
The driver, a 17-year-old male from Bedford, N.Y., was issued an infraction for the defective marker light.
