NEW CANAAN — A 27-year-old Norwalk man was hit with motor vehicle-related charges after he was allegedly caught driving drunk in town.
Police said on Dec. 22 around 1:25 a.m., Rene Sanchez, of Plymouth Avenue, drove through a stop sign at the New Norwalk and Shaker roads intersection. The Norwalk man started going southbound down New Norwalk Road but crossed the double-yellow line into the northbound lane, according to police. An officer pulled Sanchez over and smelled alcohol coming off his breath.
Sanchez was asked to perform a field sobriety test, which he allegedly failed.
He was charged with driving under the influence, failure to obey a stop sign and failure to drive right. According to police, his blood alcohol content was .109 when tested at the station, more than the legal limit of .08. He posted a $250 bond and was released. He is due to appear in court Jan. 3.
