Twenty nonprofit organizations received more than $50,000 in grant money from the Newcomers Club of New Canaan from its 2013 Holiday House Tour.
The tour, which took place in December, featured five New Canaan homes that were festively decorated by professional designers, with the help of a team of club volunteers.
Among the recipients were Kids in Crisis, for teen education at New Canaan High School; Getabout; Person-to-Person, for the emergency financial assistance program; New Canaan High School Scholarship Fund; ABC House, for the Dress for Success Program; Meals on Wheels, for meals to a client for one year; Elderhouse, for the adult day program; Waveny Care Center, for a Snoezelen music therapist; Staying Put in New Canaan, for a scholarship for two members; and Silvermine Arts Center, for the outreach arts program.
Lesley Cousley, chairman of the 2013 Holiday House Tour, said, "After all of the time and efforts that were put into the tour, the best reward is knowing that we will make a difference for many local organizations. We are grateful, especially, to those guests that braved the crummy weather on the first day of the tour. Without the continued support from our sponsors, guests, homeowners, designers and volunteers, this event would not have been a success."
