Kathy McShane, of New Canaan, the managing director of Ladies Who Launch in Connecticut, will receive an EmpowerHer Award for excellence.
"EmpowerHer Awards are given out in celebration of the intelligence, strength, courage and determination of women who are creating social change, making a difference and inspiring others to do the same," Tanisha Akinloye, creator of the award, said.
The award presentation will take place Saturday, July 26, at the Stamford Innovation Center, 175 Atlantic St., Stamford.
"I am honored to have been selected and to be part of this incredible movement," McShane said. "I continue to be amazed at the tremendous things that women do in support of other women."
McShane, who had a 20-year career in marketing and product brand development, mentors and coaches women business owners through Ladies Who Launch, which has a membership of 350 women.
In addition, McShane is an adjunct professor at New York University, and started the not-for-profit Exceptional Woman's Series, with which she showcases women who have made a difference in society. She is also a frequent speaker on issues that face female entrepreneurs.
Other award recipients are Kitt Shapiro, daughter of the entertainer Eartha Kitt, president of Eartha Kitt Productions & Simply Eartha; Carolyn Vermont, vice president at the National Black MBA Association; Trevor Crow, author, talk show host and therapist; Shantana Hazel, founder of the Sister-Girl Foundation Inc.; and Patricia West, mother of Logan West, Miss Teen Connecticut and Miss Teen USA.
The award is presented through the Bridgeport-based nonprofit organization Empowering Through Beauty Inc., which was founded in 2010 to help homeless, unemployed or underemployed women who want to return to the workforce. It has assisted more than 500 clients -- both men and women -- in helping them feel more confident through beauty and health services, job training and education, according to the organization.
Tickets are $35 and $55. Reservations can be made by visiting etbexpo.com.
