Kathy McShane, of New Canaan, the managing director of Ladies Who Launch, Connecticut, was named March of Dimes ambassador to help celebrate the 75th anniversary Oct. 2 at the Water's Edge at Giovanni's in Darien.
McShane addressed more than 100 people who enjoyed food provided by 15 area restaurants.
She was asked to be the ambassador, in part, because she had been a regional polio poster child for the organization when she was a child.
The March of Dimes achieved its goal of eradicating polio in the U.S. in 1979. It has continued its mission, which is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births and infant mortality.
The March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter provides education and intervention to help moms-to-be learn how to take care of themselves before, during and after pregnancy.
