The New Canaan Sewing Group is teaming up with Goldenberry to offer its handcrafted items, such as infant and children's sweaters and New Canaan-themed dishes and wine accessories, kitchen linens, doll's clothing and purses.
On Thursday, June 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Goldenberry, 149 Cherry St., the public is invited to see the selection and learned more about the sewing group. Refreshments will be served.
The NCSG, established in 1931, has more than members who work throughout the year creating unique, handcrafted merchandise, including embroidered linens, knitted children's wear, needlepoint accessories and one-of-a kind doll clothing and gift items.
The proceeds of twice yearly sales and farmers' markets are given to more than 20 local nonprofit organizations in support of health and human services.
"By teaming up with Goldenberry, we are thrilled to be able to offer merchandise previously available only at our boutiques," Robin Leach, club vice president, said.
Leach said Deb Hecht, the manager of Goldenberry, approached the club with the idea after group member Abby Dunham made her aware of the limitations of the NCSG's marketing opportunities.
"Deb is a strong supporter of our mission as a nonprofit, and has graciously lent us her marketing talents and retail expertise to initiate this exciting venture," Leach said.
Hecht added, "The NCSG's extraordinary level of talent is a real treasure here in New Canaan. I am continually surprised by how many Goldenberry customers are unfamiliar with the organization. I am excited to promote sewing group merchandise, and to get the word out to the community about their important fundraising mission, as well as to make people aware that they, too, can share their artistic talents with the NCSG."
Goldenberry, which is celebrating its one year New Canaan anniversary, relocated from Darien. The store sells British Isles, Irish, Scottish and other European traditional foods, as well as fashion accessories, baby gifts, fine British china, scented products and hostess gifts.
