Fire chief to discuss state of the department

New Canaan Director of Fire Services Jack Hennessey will address the Senior Men's Club of New Canaan in Morrill Hall at St. Mark's Church at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, about the "NCFD: Past, Present and Future."

Hennessey has 37 years experience in fire, emergency medical and emergency management, including positions with the Stamford Ambulance Corps, Springdale Fire Company and Turn of River Fire Department in Stamford. He retired from the city of Stamford in 2006 and was hired as the New Canaan assistant fire chief.

In 2013, Hennessey was promoted to the director of fire services and is responsible for administering fire department operations, developing and implementing department goals, preparing and managing the annual operating and capital budgets, compilation of statistical data on departmental operations, and administration of private and government grants. Hennessey supervises a staff of 70 and the fire marshal's office.

He is a member of the negotiating team for collective bargaining with the union, responds to incidents in a command capacity, coordinates personnel training and development, and assists the director of emergency management.
