The design of a contemporary New Canaan home won an American Society of Landscape Architects award for a Greenwich firm.
Doyle Herman Design Associates won the 2018 CT ASLA Merit Award for Residential Design with their project “A New England Respite.”
The family-focused design program includes the siting of architecture, various site amenities and of paramount importance the desire to insulate the property from the surrounding suburban cluster.
DHDA also won the honor award for “Residential Design, Engaging the Native Landscape,” a completely-redesigned wetlands area in Rye, N.Y. complete with a boardwalk
The awards ceremony took place Dec. 13 in New Haven. Judging and selection of the awards were adjudicated by their peers of the Alaska Chapter of ASLA.
Bucknell University has released the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2017-18 academic year. A student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean’s list recognition.
New Canaan residents from the class of 2018 include Azadeh Amir-Aslani, Allie Bel Bruno, Tom Cronin, Elizabeth Gordon, Olivia Hoelzer and Eddie Piotroski.
From the class of 2019, Kelly Clark, Emily DeTour, Alex Libman, Nicole McAleer, Fiona Risom and Margot Tucker made the dean’s list.
Four students from the class of 2020 made the list: Theo Crowley, John Hetherington, Libby O’Hare and Janie Reddan.
Finally, Andrew Cronin, Paige Freyre, Quinn Hays, Alex Kinsman, Freddie Trahanas, Callie Valenti and George Willis — all from the class of 2021 — made the dean’s list at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
Dean’s list status, which is awarded to students who earned a scholastic average of 3.6 or better while carrying at least 12 hours of regularly graded courses, has been granted to three New Canaan natives for the fall semester at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
Katharine Ferguson, Charlotte Risom and Holly Santero all made the dean’s list.
Person-to-Person has received a $10,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation for its Emergency Assistance Program, which provides food, clothing, financial assistance and casework counseling to the working poor and people experiencing a situational crisis.

The Fairfield Museum invites professional, serious amateur, and student photographers from Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts to participate in the IMAGES 2018 Juried Photography Show.
Submissions will be accepted from Dec. 1 through Jan. 22. IMAGES 2018 provides an excellent opportunity for artists to connect with prominent collectors, gallery owners, fellow photographers and the public.
A jury of artists, photographers and curators selects approximately 40 submitted photographs for exhibition in the IMAGES 2018 show, which will be on display at the Fairfield Museum and History Center from March 1 to April 15, 2018.
