Cape Cod artist Ronald Tinney's work will be on display at Sorelle Gallery, 84 Main St., New Canaan, from Saturday, Aug. 16, to Sept. 4.
A longtime signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists, Tinney creates timeless and vibrant seascapes that emote moments of summer on the coast. Tinney's personal view is inspired by the classic New England coast and much of his work is painted directly on site or from sketches done en plein aire, according to the gallery.
Tinney earned a bachelor of arts degree from Penn State and a Juris Doctor degree from Ohio Northern University. In recent years, he has studied with marine artists Donald Demers and Joseph McGurl. He also has taken workshops with Robert Douglas Hunter, Arnold Desmaris, Gregg Kreutz, Sergio Roffo, Jean Lightman and other established artists. Tinney is actively involved with his local art community and has previously served as president and director of the Cape Cod Art Association.
Tinney is also a professional member of the International Society of Marine Painters and a juried member of the Copley Society. He has exhibited work at the Maritime Gallery in Mystic Seaport, the Ventura Maritime Museum in California, the Coos Maritime Museum in Oregon and the Oil Painters of America National Show in New Mexico. He has exhibited in solo shows at the Cape Museum of Fine Art, the Cahoon Museum of American Art and the Guild of Boston Artists.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
