New York Times best-selling author Allison Winn Scotch will sign copies of her new novel, "The Theory of Opposites," from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at Elm Street Books, 35 Elm St., New Canaan.
Her fifth novel and her first independent one, it is to be produced as a film by Jennifer Garner's Vandalia Films.
In the book, Willa Chandler-Golden's seemingly solid world begins to fall apart. Her husband asks for a separation, and she's axed from her job. Then her 11-year-old nephew moves in, her ex-boyfriend finds her on Facebook and her best friend, Vanessa, lands a gig writing for "Dare You!," the hottest new reality TV show.
Vanessa lures Willa into dares of her own that run counter to theories about fate supported by Willa's famous father, who is author of a self-help best-seller. The dares might change everything, but only if Willa is brave enough to stop listening to the universe and instead aim for the stars.
One of Scotch's other four novels is "Time of My Life.
