An attempted burglary was reported on Father Peters Lane Feb. 12, New Canaan police said.
Police responded to the scene shortly before 7 p.m. after the home's alarm activated, according to the report. When police arrived, they found the owner waiting outside. Police said the man was not home and was alerted by the alarm company.
While checking the exterior of the house, the officer found forced entry to a window on the first floor, but there was no sign that anyone actually entered the house, according to the report. Police believe the alarm scared the burglar away.
The officer also found footprints in the snow and tire tracks, which were not from the homeowner's car, police said.
The case is under investigation.
