More than $2,000 in merchandise was spent under a New Canaan resident's name in another case of identity theft, according to police.
The 40-year-old complainant told police July 8 that he received a call from GE Capital Bank regarding three different department store credit cards recently opened under his name, according to the report. The victim said he had not opened an account at any of the three stores -- Walmart, Babies "R" Us and Macy's.
According to the report, the Babies "R" Us card has not been used, but the thief spent $1,700 at Macy's and $500 at Walmart. Police said Walmart would not cooperate with the investigation until a court order is issued.
The complainant does not know how his personal information was stolen, police said.
The investigation is continuing.
