AAUW holiday event Dec. 12

The American Association of University Women will host its traditional holiday event at 11 a.m. Dec. 12, at New Canaan's Waveny House.

In addition to a buffet luncheon, board member Jody Blaine Davis has arranged a performance by New York tenor Aram Tchobanian, who will entertain guests with some holiday fare.

A proponent of new music, Aram has premiered numerous operas, songs and works for voice with orchestra or chamber ensemble. He has been a featured soloist with such ensembles as the Columbus Symphony, Armenian Festival Orchestra, Hamazkayin Armenian Chorus, Alliance Players, Bacchanalia Festival Orchestra, One World Symphony and Lancaster Festival Orchestra.

He has sung in such venues as Boston's Symphony Hall and New York's Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Merkin Hall. Aram's recordings include Gal's "Venus in Furs", Pasatieri's "Three Sisters" and Marga Richter's "Riders to the Sea."

He has been a section leader in the Congregational Church's chancel choir for the past five years.
