A week as a child of the colonies

History has come alive this summer at the New Canaan Historical Society, where children are experiencing firsthand life in Colonial times.

Through the 2014 Colonial Summer Camp, children have explored the society's museums, played traditional games, made Colonial and Native American crafts, baked old-fashioned treats, tried stenciling, woodworking, among other activities.

Last week, when the camp's theme was Women in Colonial America, children made yarn dolls, drew silhouettes, cooked, played hoop-and-stick, learned clay sculpture, and joined a number of chores and games that were common in early America.

The camp is for youngsters 5 to 10 and is scheduled to run through Friday, Aug. 15.
