A package containing nearly $3,500 in vintage stamps were reported stolen from a Gerrish Lane home, New Canaan police said.
The 76-year-old complainant called police June 24 after he contacted FedEx and learned that a package he had been waiting for was delivered to his property May 5, according to the report. The victim said no one in his family has received or signed for the package, which contained stamps from the 1800s that he won in an auction, police said.
A FedEx representative described the signature as "an undecipherable scribble," the report stated.
Police believe the person who signed for the delivery either knew it was coming that day and waited outside the victim's house or randomly walked by the FedEx truck pretending to be a resident of the home.
The investigation is continuing.
